I just watched it, and it hangs around for a while. It keeps coming back to me and making me think about it from different angles.

The state of the union is a term I use with my couples on the periodic assessment on how the relationship is doing. At the minimum of yearly - easy to remember to do on your anniversary, is to have a conversation of what each of you feel is going right, and what parts can use some time and attention. I see many people in my office, who have been blindsided, by their partner wanting to divorce or to end the partnership. Sometimes it's because of an emotional or physical affair, but often it is not. The connection got lost for one or both of them, and they never talked about it . Tips for talking to Teens!

Tips for talking to your teen I have teens, so I understand how easily what seems like an innocent question/inquiry turns into your teen stomping off to their room and refusing to speak! So here are some tips I have that can help reduce the chances of a defensive response. 1. Think before you ask! Teens often see questions by parents as “snooping” and some can get defensive before the parent even asks anything! So know that how you word the question is important- sound curious, not confrontational. It’s imperative to reduce/get rid of sarcasm in your voice because many teens are very sensitive to sarcasm from parents. 2. Any time your teen wants to talk, stop what you are doing and listen. For many parents, these moments don’t happen often enough, so when they do want to talk, take advantage, even if it means delaying cooking, cleaning or chores. Will your teen say I want to talk? Happy Holidays!  Things are going well here at the clinic.  Lester Menke and Tammy Ricke are both seeing clients exclusively at our Cedarburg office now.  If you would like an appointment with one of them, you can call the main clinic phone at 262.334.4340.  In this newsletter Jennifer Skinner has written about sleep habits and getting good sleep- an important topic with the hectic holidays!  Jennifer is seeing clients at the West Bend office and the Cedarburg office.  A lot of people have been feeling under the weather lately; it's a good time to make sure you are taking care of yourself with sleep, diet and exercise.  I know I feel so much better when I exercise and have good sleep.  I am currently fighting a cold and if I had taken better care of myself by honoring my sleep schedule, I would probably have been able to fight it off .   Til next time, keep hand sanitizer near by ; ) Devona Marshall  Clinic Director S...
